Interior project payment tracking matters because interior projects are rarely paid in one go. There is a booking amount, then payments at milestones, then the final settlement. Keeping track in a notebook or a chat thread works until two projects overlap, and then it gets messy.

Why interior project payment tracking gets messy

Stage payments create small gaps that add up:

  • A UPI payment is received but not noted anywhere
  • A cheque is recorded against the wrong project
  • The balance is worked out from memory during a site visit
  • The client and the studio have different numbers in mind

None of this is about money owed. It is about records, and records are easy to fix.

Every payment on the invoice

Open an invoice in Nebula and click Record Payment. Enter:

  • Amount received
  • Payment date
  • Payment method: UPI or GPay, bank transfer, cash, cheque, card or other
  • A short note, such as "Second milestone, false ceiling complete"
after "Every payment on the invoice". Alt: Record Payment form with amount, date and method. Caption: Log each payment as it arrives.

The payment history lists every payment with the balance remaining. If a payment was entered by mistake, it can be removed.

Due dates and overdue invoices

Set a due date on each invoice. The Invoices stats bar shows how many are unpaid, partly paid, paid and overdue, plus the total value and the amount collected.

Match payments to your terms

Add payment terms to the quote in Preview, such as "25% booking, 50% at carpentry, 25% at handover". Then record each stage as it comes in, against the same project.

Clean payments start with a clean quote

Payment tracking is easiest when the invoice matches what the client approved. In Nebula the chain is unbroken: the quote is drafted from the floor plan, priced from your library, sent as a branded PDF with your payment terms printed on it, approved by the client, and turned into the invoice without retyping. When the client sees the same numbers from quote to final payment, there is nothing to question.

Why this wins projects

Clear payment records make conversations easier. When a client asks "How much is left?", you answer in seconds with dates and methods, and that kind of professionalism earns referrals.

Questions studios ask

Can I record a payment made in cash?

Yes. Cash, UPI or GPay, bank transfer, cheque, card and other methods can all be recorded, with a note.

What if I record a payment by mistake?

It can be removed from the payment history.

Can I see all overdue invoices together?

Yes. The Invoices stats bar shows unpaid, partly paid, paid and overdue invoices at a glance.

A designer's note

Money conversations are where client relationships get tense. Most of that tension comes from uncertainty: who paid what, and when. I designed payment tracking to remove the uncertainty, with every payment, method and balance on the same invoice the client already has. When both sides see the same record, there is nothing to argue about.
